His Own Way
Lyrics:
I'd like to tell you a story now about
a little boy who's world was down.
He liked to do everything his own way.
Living on the edge of a dying life
'cause he knew he had nothing to lose
And he still did everything his own way.
My boy, why did you refuse?
You like to get in all these moods.
When they told you that you were so wrong,
but you thought that you were so fucking strong.
He always liked the chaos that he could do.
He chased his dreams with the wrong damn crew.
And he still did everything his own way.
Sold his shit to the mindless brain,
Now, he sought out all those that were insane
And he still did everything his own way.
Commentary:
Here is another song that is special to me. This is the first song that I sang in the band when Mike was still at lead vocals. I felt like the lyrics I wrote were about me and I felt a strong need to sing them myself. It also is a song about confidence, so it's pretty fitting that this would be the first one I felt comfortable enough to play and sing.
This was also the first song that Tim tries playing a beat that incorporates the toms steadily. I remember asking him if he could play the floor tom instead of the hi-hat and I immediately loved what he came up with. In my eyes, this opened up options for Tim as well. His creativity, along with ours, is beginning to form.
We all had issues. We were all going through shit. We were determined to change that. We did things our own way. We were growing. We were getting better.
Granted, slowly, but still, better none the less.
