Questions

Lyrics:
Have I seen it all? Have I viewed the best?
Took it all the way. I tried to see that day.
What did I do wrong? Who did I mistreat?
Where will I end up? Who will I mislead?

Scared of time gone by and what the future brings.
What could we all do and what could we all say?
Leaving this world behind. Trying to find my mind.
What can I now do and what can I now say?

Have I done it all? Have I lived my life?
Have I seen the lies of my corrupted lives?
Try to fight the dark. Try to chew tar pits.
Try a free inhale but now I have failed.

Commentary:

I liked the three individual notes before the chords in this song. It made me feel like I was taking a step in the right direction when it came to my rhythm guitar playing. It wasn't much, I know, but for the time, it felt like progress. The lyrics are all questions, hence the title "Questions." I actually don't mind the lyrics too much. They are very self reflective and I definitely remember feeling like I didn't want to be so angry, dark and depressed all the time. I didn't want the circumstances of my life (mostly family situation) to rule over me. Once again a theme of "leaving this world behind" comes up, which one would figure out by now is simply a desperate longing for change.

Another note about this song is that it is one of the only songs that we recorded where Tim shut off the snares on his snare drum, leaving it with a duller type sound without any "crack." There wasn't much thought process behind this move except we were now well into the recording stages and wanted to simply experiment with different sounds and see what happened. It's funny, but it kind of fits the tone of this song as it's a tune that doesn't have any distorted rhythm guitar in it. Looks like we really nailed that mellow vibe. Or at least tried to.

Overall, I liked the songs mood especially Matt's solo. It felt like we were all getting a little better at our parts. Looks like it might be time to compile another master tape! Let us move forward to what I like to call: Lightly Jogging in to the Future: Master Tape #2
