Baby

Lyrics:
I Want you baby. I need you badly.
I love you baby. I made you cry now baby.

Leave me alone and you will see.
Just get away and let me be.
I would never tell you so untrue.
But baby if you only knew.

I saw you baby. You lied to me.
Still love you baby. Don't make me cry now baby.

Leave me alone and you will see.
Just get away and let me be.
I would never tell you so untrue.
But baby if you only knew.

Where is my baby? I wish I knew.
Still love my baby. She made me cry now baby.

Leave me alone and you will see.
Just get away and let me be.
I would never tell you so untrue.
But baby if you only knew.

Commentary:
Continuing my penchant for the dramatic in regards to relationships comes "Baby." Simple, repetitive and melancholy - perfect ingredients for a novice love song.

At the time of writing this song, I was dating my first, long term girlfriend, Odie (short for Odalys). She was a sweet and supportive girlfriend that was into the band. The one day, while I was over her house, she brings out a Fostex audio monitor that she had found down the street and asks if it was something I could use. At the time, I did not have any speakers for the 4-track and this was a great find. I asked where she found it and she mentioned that a neighbor was throwing them out. Them? I asked.

We quickly went back to the scene of the so-called trash and scooped up this little workhorse’s companion. Now I had two working speakers to mix in stereo with! Granted, I need to buy a couple of 1/4" to RCA adapters, but that seemed like a small price to pay in order to dump these songs down without having to put on a pair of crumby cans on my ears! This song, was the first song I mixed down using those speakers.

The best part of the story, is that I STILL have and use these very special, Fostex 6301B audio monitors to this day – everyday! It was only about 4 years ago that I needed to replace the speaker cones, but other than that, these puppies have been rocking since 1995 or, most likely, longer! It is now 2023. Talk about built to last. Thanks Odie!
