Ode To Stoges

Lyrics:

When I set eyes on them I smiled.
I Stood there like a little child.
They shined on me the stars above.
From this day on I'll feel their love.
They watch over me when I'm bad.
They watch over me when I'm sad.
I'm never gonna leave my stoges, I'll tell that I love them.
And that they're the only ones for me, the only ones you see.
I'll ask them to stay and they won't leave.
I'll ask them to see and they'll believe.
Please hear my song to you, you know I'll never quit.
Thought I'd say, "I love you" and all that other shit.

Commentary:

This song was originally written as a love song, but then after seeing how sappy it sounded, I decided to make it a joke song about my love for cigarettes. I actually wrote a poem very similar to this song when I was in high school for an assignment.

In the song I say, "you know I'll never quit," however, that proved to be a lie as I did quit smoking (cigarettes) in 2012. It only took 23 years.

Once this song did turn into a joke song, the upbeat drums and distortion parts were written in. I guess I must have been in my James Hetfield from Metallica stage as I think I kind of sound like him (or at least am trying to) in the second verse. This song marks the first of a few joke songs that we have written over the years and the classic, "let the guitars feed back and get upset at it when I know damn well I could cut the recording off at any time and not shout a disingenuous shut up at the band" maneuver. We were so cutting edge. Actually, I think this move was inspired by a Nirvana song.
