Emanon

Lyrics:
Here comes the rain again bringing me insane again.
No more heart, you took it away. Those blue skies turning gray.
To think of him in your bed, love to lust is in my head.
Here come the pain again and that burning rain again.

Silence is all there is.
Confusion kills. The time I missed.
Pissed me off and left no choice but to hear your lying voice.

So you were in my head, but now that feeling's dead.
Why should I cry for you when already my love is new?
The anger is all I got. Good times, somehow, I forgot.
You tried to come back to me. Bullshit, I'm through and free.

Silence is all there is.
Confusion kills. The time I missed.
Pissed me off and left no choice but to hear your lying voice.

Commentary:
The lyrics to this song were written by a friend named John Farese. We would chill all the time and he would come to the practices and shows. He presented me with these lyrics and I thought they were pretty good so I worked on some rhythms and melodies for it. I have known John for years at this point but I’m not sure if I knew he played the violin. Maybe I forgot at the time. Either way, the original idea was for him to add violin where the solo is now. I’m not sure of the details, but the violin never made it into the final mix of the song. I would have loved if we did have some recording of it, but unfortunately, we were really broke and the type II cassettes that the 4-track required were, well, not expensive, but expensive for us at the time. Remember, we didn’t even have a real mic stand. A copper pipe, shelf brackets and masking tape baby!

I’m not certain, but I think this song was about the girl that John dated at the time. They were up and down for a few years and this might have been near the end for them. The tone of the song certainly suggests this.

I always liked the rhythm and the drums during the verses. I feel like if we had re-recorded this on better gear and polished it more it would still be a mediocre song, but I think the verses would sound cool.

Here is fun fact about the name of the song. At the time, I crushed on a girl that I went to Bergen Community College with. It’s not what you’re thinking. I was broken up with my girlfriend already.

Anyway, this girl – I believe her name was Jen or Jessica Sarube. I remember because her family owned a small deli type store in the town I grew up in and it was called Sarube’s. They sponsored a little league team and had black uniforms which were great. Our uniforms were green. I think my team was called AQL? I know I was on Rotundo and Sons, but those weren’t the green uniforms. Gray and red I believe…

Geez, I think my wife is right about my A.D.D.

So, Jen or Jessica (they were sisters and I can’t remember which one I was friends with and liked – oh man, it happened again…)

Soooo, she had a cat that she named Emanon. She explained that they couldn’t come up with a name for it so they named it "No Name" backwards. EmaNoN.

All that lead up for this shitty, little fun fact!

Hey, I thought it was pretty cool at the time and I stole the idea to name a song we had no name for. I’m certain she wasn’t the first person to come up with it and I am certainly not the last to have used it.
Kiss my ass.
Just kidding 😊
